Reinvented nightlife in Winnipeg a hip hop twist on karaoke.

No words, no screen, know your sh*t! That’s the motto of Hip Hop Karaoke (fondly referred to as HHK or HHKWPG on Instagram), a crowd participation event that challenges party goers to memorize and perform their favourite rap songs over only an instrumental.

In a few months, what started as a small coffee shop party with Jamaican patties and cheap beer, turned into a 200+ person event with weed sponsors and hilarious infomercials.

Our 5th event celebration featured Toronto’s DJ Big Jacks, and karaoke signups filled up in minutes via our text line.

I cofounded the event in 2019, and built it from the ground up. I also coproduced the content and maintained brand aesthetic + tone irl and across all platforms.

Read more about it here in the Winnipeg Free Press, or watch the mini documentary produced by CBC.
